Welcoming Physicians at Every Step

Empty ACF Field "subheading"

We have heard loud and clear from our members that recruitment and retention is where you want us to focus our attention – that’s why it remains one of our top priorities.

Supporting physicians from the moment they consider Campbell River & District through their first years of practice is essential to long-term retention. That’s why in 2025 we developed a Physician Integration Pathway that ensures every new physician feels welcomed, informed and connected as they settle into our community.

Who We Support

  • Fully & provisionally licensed FPs
  • FPs retiring or closing practice
  • Clinics in Campbell River & District
  • IMG-BC ROS and PRA-BC ROS candidates
  • FPs with training in Canada, USA, Australia, Ireland and the UK
  • Family medicine residents

PRA-BC Support

Empty ACF Field "subheading"

Over the years, Campbell River has been fortunate to host a number of skilled PRA-BC physicians, many of whom have chosen to stay in the community after their return of service period.

If your clinic is considering hosting a PRA candidate, we can connect you to the right people at Island Health and help you navigate the application process. When your new PRA colleague arrives, the Division will be ready to support their integration into the medical community and beyond. We understand the steep learning curve required of these physicians and aim to work alongside community partners to provide resources to their spouses and children so that the physician can focus on adapting to a new healthcare system.

The Division also hosts a PRA-BC group to facilitate connection among these physicians and create avenues for information sharing, mentorship and non-clinical advice.

Medical Resident Support

Empty ACF Field "subheading"

Campbell River’s medical community is fortunate to be a Vancouver Island–Strathcona UBC Family Medicine Residency Program site.

The Division of Family Practice is happy to provide R1 and R2 physicians a warm welcome, networking and connections within the community, referral to resources, and transition to practice supports.

We understand the demands of residency and want to echo the values of the Strathcona program – to facilitate a balanced and supported stay in our community.

Have questions about recruitment, retention or retirement? Reach out to our Program Coordinator, Kate Macdonald.
